Women’s Well-Being – A Holistic Approach at Sussex Private GP Clinic

At Sussex Private GP Clinic, we know that a woman’s health is about so much more than just physical check-ups. It’s about caring for your whole self, at every stage of life.

As Professor Lesley Regan, former President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, reminds us:

“Women make up over half the UK population, play key roles in both the workforce and at home, and are often the heartbeat of their families’ health.”

That’s why at our clinic, led by the experienced and compassionate Dr Ameen, we offer a supportive, private space where women can feel heard, understood, and empowered.

What Does Holistic Women’s Health Mean?

Women are often balancing careers, caring roles, relationships, and personal ambitions, all of which can take a toll on overall well-being. That’s why we believe in preventative care and whole-person health, not just treating illness when it appears.

Let’s break down the key areas that matter most for women’s well-being:

Physical Health
Staying active is essential. Women are encouraged to aim for 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week. From around age 30, we naturally lose muscle mass, which can affect balance, strength, and energy levels. Strength training, even a couple of times a week, helps protect your muscles and bones, supporting you to stay strong and mobile.

A healthy, balanced diet is also key. What you eat fuels your energy, mood, hormones, and immunity. At Sussex Private GP, we can support you with tailored lifestyle and nutrition advice that works for your goals.

Mental Health

Women are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and mood-related disorders often influenced by hormonal shifts through the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, peri-menopause and menopause.

To support our mental health, we should strive to maintain healthy social connections whilst ensuring our stress levels and hormonal fluctuations are controlled by adopting positive lifestyle choices.

Gynaecological & Reproductive Health

From menstrual issues to contraception and fertility planning every woman’s journey is unique. Some women experience intense premenstrual symptoms like PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), which can be deeply distressing.

Our team is here to help you explore treatment options, manage symptoms, and make informed decisions about your reproductive health. We offer a full range of contraception support, tailored to your body, lifestyle, and future plans.

Menopause & HRT Support

As time goes by, we are constantly learning more about the peri-menopause and post menopause. Whilst HRT is an option available to many women, there are a variety of things that can be done to help. For example, a healthy and active lifestyle including weight based training, yoga, meditation and maintaining healthy relationships, can all support women going through this.  In addition, reducing alcohol and avoiding smoking, can all help alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Your Health. Your Way.

Dr Ameen and the team are proud to support women across Sussex with expert, compassionate care. Whether it’s a quick check-up or a deeper conversation about your health, we’re here to listen, support and guide you because your well-being matters.
